Okay! Since I’m still awake, let’s see how much more I can say about Season 6 before I fall over!
There were some cliffhangers last season, yes? Lots of questions in need of answers.
One of the questions I kept bringing up was: What happened to Podrick Payne and that axe while Brienne was interrogating Stannis?
In case anyone’s seen the latest interview with Daniel Portman aka Podrick Payne, and wondering how I feel about his answers: I’ve seen it. I have ideas. I’m withholding those ideas in the interest of not embarrassing myself.
In case anyone hasn’t seen the interview and wondering what I’m talking about: he hasn’t told us anything about where Podrick went with that axe. He hasn’t answered any other of my questions, either, but those questions aren’t really his responsibility, so that’s fine. We still don’t know what Podrick was doing in the finale.
Also, if you haven’t ordered it already, you should totally get the Season 5 DVD set, and you should absolutely listen to the audio commentary track of Episode 2, with Gwen, Nik and Daniel Portman. They’re so, so funny together. I was worried it would be mostly just Nik and Gwen having fun together and Dan not getting a chance to say anything, but really it’s just the opposite. It’s mostly Gwen and Dan having fun together and trying to keep Nik in the action, but he keeps getting left behind. They don’t give us anything we don’t already know, but even so, they’re hilarious.

In response to the new teaser vids we got last Friday afternoon, just as the world was about to end out here in the mid-Atlantic region, I wrote up a new piece for Fansided!
Houses Stark, Lannister, Targaryen have plenty in common.
(Note: I am grateful to have editors like Dan Selcke, who smack my SEO into shape when I feel like I can’t possibly do it.)
On Friday, the Game of Thrones Twitter account released three teaser videos, one each for Houses Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen. Each video features the voice of a character who is antagonistic to the interests of the House in question; Ramsay Bolton proclaims his ownership of Winterfell, the High Sparrow tells his followers they can overthrow an empire, and a Dothraki leader tells Dany she is “queen of nothing.”
Taken together, the impression is that we should see all three of these great Houses, which up to now have been working at cross-purposes, on similar terms. They are all fighting to survive, all struggling against the aggression of people who were once trusted allies. As of the end of Season 5, these three great Houses have more in common than they understand.
So I wrote about what connects these three Houses. Spoiler alert: I still don’t think Tyrion is a Targaryen. I think his connection to Dany as an advisor is sufficient as a connection between Lannister and Targ. Also, I managed to take a new climb up that hill-I’m-willing-to-die-on and Dan didn’t even try to edit it into something more tentative.
This morning on the Metro, I was running some further analysis on Brienne & Podrick, as I am given to do, and this time the question was: plot significance. What were all the things they’ve done since saying goodbye to King’s Landing, and how did those events contribute to the plot? It’s not like I haven’t already obsessed multiple thousands of words of speculation on our big swordswench and her loyal squire, but this particular exercise was actually enlightening.

In which I peer disapprovingly at my ridiculous Cousin Cersei’s latest antics.
We’re the Riverlands Lannisters, the ones that packed up and intermarried with the Tullys, hence the auburn hair and blue eyes. We still rock the red and gold, though.
I read basically all of this book on the way home from work this evening, and while it could use a bit more proofreading, the photos are gorgeous and some of the information is super helpful.
There are some important differences between the Riverrun sub-plot in A Feast for Crows, and what they appear to be filming at Riverrun in S6. The most obvious difference is context: the Riverlands events taking place on the show are happening after certain events in King’s Landing, not before. Ergo, some characters will have different preoccupations than they had in the books. The real departure we’re seeing so far, however…
I said something in an earlier post about how such-and-such actor hadn’t been mentioned at so-and-so set, and that had me worried for the fate of his character.
