I live in Greenbelt, and was required by the DC Dept. of Employment Services (DOES) to pay a visit to the One-Stop Career Center in Anacostia today as a condition of my receiving UI. (For everyone who’s unfamiliar with this area’s geography: it looks reasonable as the crow flies, but on public transit it’s a shlep. I don’t drive if I can avoid it.) Fortunately my case manager was all over reassuring me that I’m in compliance and will not be expected to report to the office again. She could see that it was a shlep.
All this is not to say that the One-Stop is a terrible place to be. They seem to be running a pretty tight ship in there; the employees are pleasant, engaged and efficient. It’s just such a PITA to get there and back. I suspect DOES uses the location because the real estate is about as cheap as can be within the jurisdiction. Also, the bus out of there was packed like a can of sardines.
Tired now. Got up early and didn’t get my daily caffeine fix until after noon. Still waiting for the withdrawal headache to go away.
That is all. I’ve done a little bit of editing on Charlinder but not as much as I would like to have done by now. Bad Monster! Bad!
